Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett has quickly built a national rock star status in the U.S. Congress as a Black woman truthteller with a silver tongue who sits or stands with comments and responses that cause some heads and shoulders to fall in despair because they don't know what to say.
Crockett, a civil rights attorney, public defender and former Texas state legislator, quickly rose to national prominence as a freshman U.S. Representative.

Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett announced on Instagram and confirmed on WBOK that she will visit New Orleans during the State of the People Power Tour scheduled for May 8-9, 2025.
Crockett broke news on Instagram and confirmed it Thursday morning, telling WBOK's Good Morning Show that she'll be joining the State of the People Power Tour in New Orleans next week. The 10-city tour launched in Atlanta on April 26 and it was in Durham and Raleigh, North Carolina this week. The tour will visit Alabama, Mississippi, New Jersey, Virginia, Michigan, California, and Kentucky before ending with "Juneteenth General Assembly" at a location to be announced. Each tour stop will include a day of community activities, education and engagement workshops and listening to locals talk about what they'd like to see on a national Black agenda.
The tour visits New Orleans May 8-9.
During a conversation on WBOK's Good Morning Show, Crockett talked about President Donald Trump's immigration actions, funding of illegal ICE actions and ways to fight back. Since we hear near daily developments that shake many of us, I'm sure Crockett will have lots to say when she visits the Crescent City. This is the only tour stop she will make.
"I'm only in Nawlins," she said. "That is the only stop I'm doing."
You might have seen Crockett on national television, cable-television or a streaming platform, but if you haven't seen her live and in person, this is your chance to be inspired if you like where she's coming from -- or to be challenged if you don't.
The day, location and time will be announced by tour organizers soon.
Whichever day and whichever place, I know New Orleans will show up, get engaged and be a part of fighting horrors we're seeing far too frequently.
