Overseeing a team of 100 researchers to help track down bankster outlaws, Ólafur Þór Hauksson is tasked with being a white collar crime bounty hunter, as he tracks down Icelandic bankers that stole and defrauded its people. He was appointed to the job by his own government, who has already forgiven all mortgages and who has rejected all the debts of the people of Iceland, in defiance of the bankers.
Hauksson was a former police lieutenant in Iceland, and his job description is something he describes as something quite unique:
“On one hand, we have to investigate all suspicion of fraud and offences committed before 2009, on the other hand, we bring the lawsuits against the suspects to court ourselves,” Hauksson explains. This is a ‘totally new’ method which allows the investigators to “follow the case” and the judicial system to “know the cases like the back of their hand”. This is indispensable in order “to compete with the well-prepared defence attorneys”.

Iceland has recognized what’s going on and is taking action, unlike some nations that are dragging its feet. The powers that were long relied on volatile, violent crashes and toppling of economies to control. They are certainly attempting it, but leak after leak after leak after leak continues, and the only war that’s occurring is the continual threat of war that keeps getting kicked down the road.
